The 2023 NFL offseason is right around the corner and the Green Bay Packers are going to be one of the busiest teams in the rumored mill this year. Aaron Rodgers may or may not be on his way out of town and there are plenty of players on the roster that either need new deals or will walk to head elsewhere. One of those players is veteran wide receiver Allen Lazard.
Lazard has all but said that he’s leaving the Packers this offseason. Many believe that there is zero chance he will return. That could change, but for now it appears that he’ll sign with a new team in free agency.
According to Jake Rill of Bleacher Report, the Chicago Bears may very well end up being a team that pursues Lazard when free agency opens up.
“While Lazard likely wouldn’t emerge as a No. 1 receiver for Chicago, the 27-year-old could be a solid second or third option for Fields to throw the ball to. The Bears should likely take a top wide receiver in the draft, but it would also help them to bring in a player like Lazard to add depth at the position, which is currently a weakness for the team.”
Breaking Down The Possible Allen Lazard To Bears Fit
Green Bay fans have become accustomed to the Bears swooping in and picking up their free agents. Another recent wide receiver signing for the Bears was Equanimeous St. Brown. Lazard heading to Chicago would be nothing out of the ordinary for the Packers.
During the 2022 NFL season with the Packers, Lazard ended up playing in 15 games. He caught 60 passes for 788 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers show how capable Lazard is of being a huge piece of an offense.
Justin Fields would have to be excited to see the Bears go out and sign Lazard. Chicago would then have Chase Claypool and Lazard as new pickups to show Fields that they are building around him. Also, it is very unlikely that the price tag would be very steep for a player like Lazard.

At 27 years of age, Lazard would step right in as a No. 2 or No. 3 option. Not only is he a great receiver, but he has become known for his blocking ability with the Packers.
It will be interesting to see which teams show interest in signing Lazard. Outside of the Bears, there are plenty of teams who could show interest. A couple of those teams could be the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, and New York Giants.
Expect to hear quite a few teams show interest in Allen Lazard when NFL free agency opens. Don’t be shocked if he ends up staying in the NFC North and playing for the Bears.
