With less than 30 seconds left in regulation and on a 4th-and-1 at the Green Bay Packers’ 14, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams decided to go for it in the end zone with a pass intended for tight end Cole Kmet.
But Kmet did not even make contact with the ball, as Green Bay cornerback Keisean Nixon swooped in for his first interception in the 2025 NFL season. Nixon’s pick also ended up sealing the 26-21 win in favor of Green Bay.
After the game, Williams shared his thoughts on the play that essentially doomed Chicago.
“I tried to give him a big-boy ball, try and let him go up for it because I ended up seeing [Nixon] start to sprint,” Williams said, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN.
“I tried to slow them up and kind of give him a chance. In those moments, it’s a got-to-have-it moment. And they had a guy trailing me, so I didn’t feel like I could go get it myself. Just got to give Cole a better shot at it. I think next time, just extend him a little bit more and kind of lead him. But in those moments, you want to put the ball in play and trust your guy or try to have your guy go make a play and just got to give him a better ball.”

Williams was still moving when he attempted to complete a pass to Kmet, but that wasn’t a problem, according to the Bears signal-caller.
“Not tough at all,” Williams added. “Just got to give him a better ball. Thinking too much.”
Meanwhile, the mean streets of social media weren’t too fond of Williams’ take and his performance overall.
“This guy is about to be E L I T E. What a fukkin show in the second half 😳😳😳😳,” said a fan on X.
Another one said: “Lmao if it’s not tough at all I guess he just sucks😂”
From a commenter: “ORRRRR, just run for the first and go from there. But wtf do I know”
“‘Just got to give him a better ball.’ Should be his motto,” a social media user posted.
Via a different commenter: “or throw it when the [expletyive]guy is open. stop [expletyive]waiting for something grand.”
When it was all said and done in the game, Williams had 186 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception for the Bears, who will share the field with Green Bay again in Week 16, but at Soldier Field in Chicago.
