The Badgers women’s basketball team beat Michigan State in a thrilling overtime battle last Wednesday. The Badgers stepped onto the court with one Big Ten win under their belt after defeating Minnesota 81-77 last Sunday. Michigan State started the game looking to break their losing streak after falling to Maryland last Saturday, but they were in no such luck. The Badgers’ win marks the first time since the 2016/2017 season that the Badgers won two straight Big Ten back-to-back games.

    Match Analysis

Serah Williams gave a big-time performance with a career-high 31 points (13-of-16 from the field and 5-of-7 at the free throw line), earning her a second double-double of the season. She also grabbed 13 rebounds. Maty Wilke scored 16 points with four assists and five rebounds, and Brooke Schramek claimed 12 points and five assists to help the Badgers beat the Spartans.

The Badgers started strong, leading 32-25 at halftime. Their lead grew to 40-29 in the third quarter, but Michigan State stepped up and tied the game at 66 with just under two minutes to play. With only 23 seconds left to go, Michigan State got their first lead of the night (70-68). But it didn’t stick. Serah Williams’ layup tied the game at 70 apiece with only 90 seconds left on the clock.

In overtime, Serah Williams hit a field goal while Brooke Schramek sunk two free throws to help the Badgers take a 74-70 lead. For the rest of the game, Michigan State never got closer than two points.

The Badgers women’s basketball team beat Michigan State in overtime with their second-best shooting night of the 2022/2023 season, shooting 52.7 percent from the field.

    What’s Next?

Since the Badgers women’s basketball team beat Michigan State, they’ll be looking to continue their winning streak. The Badgers (6-11, 2-4 B1G) will travel to Indiana next to face the No. 6  Hoosiers on January 15th.  This will be a big match for the Badgers, as the Hoosiers have won the last eight matchups. And the last time the Badgers beat the Hoosiers in Indiana was during the 2010-11 season. But the Badgers, coming off two Big Ten wins, might just have the momentum to pull it off.
