The pressure is on for the Wisconsin Badgers Football team to field a competitive team.  Missing bowl games used to be unheard of, missing it two years in a row isn’t something that has happened in more than two decades (2001-02).  That is, until it happened under Luke Fickell over these past two seasons.

However, the team is hoping that a commitment from an in-state running back could be part of the turn around.

Wisconsin HS Star Will Mikonowicz Makes Big Time Commitment to Badgers (Report)

Will Mikonowicz, an in-state recruit for the class of 2026, has committed to play football for Wisconsin.

Mikowicz is a 6-foot-1 RB/DB from Reedsburg, Wisconsin. While at Reedsburg Area High School, he played running back and defensive back, earning All-State honors at both positions:

“Grateful to announce my commitment to UW!” Mikonowicz wrote on X. “Blessed for the opportunity and to be able to represent my home state! Go Badgers!”

The in-state athlete did not have any Power Four scholarship offers, according to 247Sports. He joins a Wisconsin class of 2026 that currently ranks No. 71 nationally with 14 players signed. Of note, only two of those 14 scholarship players are from the state of Wisconsin: three-star linebacker Ben Wenzel and three-star linebacker Taylor Schaefer.

Mikonowicz’s preferred walk-on signing adds to that important number.

What Does The Badgers RB Room Look Like?

There will be a few changes in the running back room for Wisconsin in 2026. Cade Yacamelli far and away being the biggest change as he entered the transfer portal earlier this month.

As of this publication, the projected RBs on the roster entering the 2026 season is as follows:

    • Darrion Dupree (will be a junior)
    • Dilin Jones (will be sophomore)
    • Gideon Ituka (will be a sophomore)
    • Mason Lane (will be a sophomore)
    • Will Mikonowicz (true freshman)
    • Harrison Bortolotti (redshirt freshman)
