A Wisconsin Badgers’ staff member was on the road this week and stopped by the homes of two key 2027 class defensive recruiting targets.

Outside linebackers and special teams coach Matt Mitchell hit the road this week to visit a combination of schools and recruits. Among the recruits Mitchell visited were two notable Wisconsin recruiting targets who are towards the top of the priority list at the moment.

Mitchell made a stop in Waukesha to see Catholic Memorial (WI) three-star edge rusher Isaac Miller at his home. Miller is currently the 586th ranked recruit nationally, the 45th edge rusher in the class, and the sixth ranked recruit in a stacked in-state class. Top 2027 Wisconsin recruit and four-star tight end Korz Loken announced his commitment to the Badgers earlier this month.

Mitchell additionally traveled to Rockford, Illinois to meet with fellow 2027 three-star edge rusher Keysan Taylor in his home. Taylor is the 370th ranked recruit nationally and the 30th overall edge rusher in the recruiting class. The defender is considered to be the 11th ranked recruit in the state of Illinois despite starring at the relatively small school of Guilford (IL).

For the Badgers, Miller is a very familiar face around the program as the staff has been in contact with the recruit since 2024. The Badgers’ staff have prioritized many notable names coming out of the state of Wisconsin including Loken, three-star offensive tackle Ethan McIntosh (current Badgers commitment), four-star offensive tackle Cole Reiter, and three-star athlete Kingston Allen.

Miller is another player in the same company as the Badgers believe keeping the defender close to home for college is vital. The defender has a long, growing list of offers however that could pose a threat to the chances of Wisconsin landing the recruit. Programs that have offered Miller include Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.

Currently, both the Badgers and the Gators have been the most aggressive recruiters of Miller which likely will result in a heated recruiting battle down the line.

Taylor, however, is in a similar boat as the Wisconsin Badgers continue to work on establishing pipelines in the state of Illinois. Wisconsin offered Taylor a scholarship in June, 2025, while camping with the program which kick-started the recruiting process for the edge rusher.

Since picking up an offer from the Badgers, programs that have offered Taylor include Indiana, Miami, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee, and Penn State. The Nittany Lions are the most recent program to offer the edge rusher as the Matt Campbell led staff has been re-offering a number of recruits.

Wisconsin is in an interesting position with Taylor as the recruit is not quite ready to cut down programs. The Badgers hope that being persistent and continuing to keep open lines of communication with the edge rusher will result in a future commitment when Taylor begins to make important decisions.
