The Wisconsin Badgers continued their aggressive rebuild in the winter transfer portal by landing a commitment from a surprise running back. The news surfaced on Friday and immediately flooded social media.
Wisconsin Badgers Add Depth with TCU Transfer Running Back Nate Palmer

According to numerous sources, Nate Palmer, a 6-foot, 195-pound redshirt freshman, chose Wisconsin over interest from programs like Purdue, South Carolina, Oregon State, UCLA, and reportedly was leaning toward Missouri before committing during his visit to Madison.
This marks the third running back added via the portal in recent days, joining Abu Sama III (from Iowa State) and Bryan Jackson (from USC). The Badgers have secured 23 total commitments in the first week-plus of the portal window, addressing major needs after a challenging 2025 season plagued by injuries at RB.
Why Wisconsin? Beating Out SEC Competition
Palmer visited South Carolina and was reportedly set to visit Missouri post-Wisconsin, but committed on the spot during his Madison trip. Wisconsin’s prior relationship (offered him in high school) and the need for depth likely played key roles.
The Badgers’ running game struggled in 2025 due to injuries to players like Darrion Dupree, Dilin Jones, and Cade Yacamelli, dropping to fourth-string options late in the year. Head coach Luke Fickell and OC Jeff Grimes are prioritizing a deep, versatile RB room for 2026. Palmer provides immediate competition and insurance, especially if Gideon Ituka (injured late 2025) misses time.
Impact on Wisconsin’s 2026 Offense
With Palmer, the Badgers now boast a loaded RB group for 2026:
- Abu Sama III
- Bryan Jackson
- Nate Palmer
- Returners: Darrion Dupree (2025 leading rusher) and potentially Gideon Ituka
