On Friday the Wisconsin Badgers added yet another impressive name to their team via the transfer portal. After yet another disappointing season under head coach Luke Fickell, it would appear the team is putting more money toward their NIL program.
Wisconsin Badgers Bolster Defensive Line with FCS All-Conference Transfer Jake Anderson

Numerous sources confirmed that Jake Anderson, a 6’5″, 305-pound interior defensive lineman, announced his commitment. The news came shortly after Illinois State’s overtime loss in the FCS National Championship game.
This marks the Badgers’ 24th known transfer commitment in the early portal window (which opened January 2 and closes January 16).
Anderson joins fellow DL transfers Hammond Russell IV (West Virginia) and Junior Poyser (Buffalo) to address major needs up front after a tough 2025 season (4-8 record, bottom-tier Big Ten defense).

Why Wisconsin? Fit & Impact
Defensive line coach E.J. Whitlow targeted Anderson for his ability to provide immediate size and experience in the middle. This is crucial for stopping the run in the Big Ten. Wisconsin’s 2025 DL rotation relied on 4-6 players per game but lacked consistent depth after injuries and departures.
With Anderson, the Badgers add a proven early-down anchor alongside:
- Hammond Russell IV (West Virginia transfer)
- Junior Poyser (Buffalo transfer)
- Returners like sophomore Dillan Johnson (key contributor)
