After a 74-69 loss to Penn State last Sunday, the Badgers women’s basketball team stepped onto the court tonight ready for a win. In their final non-conference game of the season, the Badgers beat Valparaiso 59-44.
The highlight of the night, though, was Julie Pospisilova’s big-time achievement. After recording her first double-double in their loss against Penn State, Pospisilova started the game against Valparaiso with 997 points, only three away from an impressive 1,000 career points. As the Badgers beat Valparaiso at home, Pospisilova ended the night with ten points, seven rebounds, and four steals to officially become the 28th player in Badger history (and the first born outside of the U.S.) to reach the milestone.
Match Analysis
Serah Williams finished the game with a team-high 18 points. She also snatched five rebounds and four blocks. Brooke Schramek scored nine points and five rebounds for the Badgers, while Sania Copeland scored nine points (3-for-6 from the field).
While the Badgers started the game with the first basket, the game switched momentum quickly as Valparaiso went on a 12-0 run, followed by a Badger 20-0 run. After Pospisilova scored her 1,000 point (a three-pointer), the Badgers managed to hold on to the lead.
Valparaiso did narrow the score leading up to half-time. They walked off the court only trailing by two (24-22). But the start of the second half saw Williams on a personal 6-0 run, which helped the Badgers increase their lead to 30-22. Overall, the Badgers outscored Valparaiso 35-22 in the second half to help the Badgers beat Valparaiso 59-44.
