The Rule 5 draft was today.  This also coincided with the last day of Winter Meetings.  Several Brewer prospects were eligible to be selected, however none of them ended up being drafted by opposing teams.  On the flip side, Matt Arnold made a selection.  His selection was right-handed pitcher Gus Varland.  Varland was formerly in the Dodgers organization. Tuesday was an action packed day at the Winter Meetings.  The biggest free agent on the market was thought to have signed, only to be false.  A few free agent outfielders signed contracts including a former MVP joining a NL Central rival of the Brewers.  Some starting pitchers left the free agent market.  The first ever draft lottery was held and the Brew Crew made their first move. Winter Meetings are in full swing and big contracts are being handed out. The Brewers have made one small signing but are unlikely to sign any big name free agents. They could look to upgrade via trade. Within the NL Central, the Chicago Cubs just signed a former MVP outfielder. They signed Cody Bellinger. One big piece of news that came out of the Winter Meetings on Monday was from the Twins organization.  They announced that Luis Arraez is available via trade.  Arraez won the 2022 AL batting title with a .316 batting average.  In return, the Twins want top tier pitching.  Is this an avenue that the Brewers should explore? After parting ways with Kolten Wong, the Brewers have acquired slugger Jesse Winker.  Abraham Toro also came over in the trade with the Mariners.  Some rumors did surface regarding concern for Winker’s presence in the clubhouse, but let’s not forget that this left handed hitting outfielder/designated hitter was involved in a massive brawl in 2022.  In this scuffle, Winker stood up for himself and his teammates after being hit by a pitch.  Teammate Julie Rodriguez was nearly hit by a pitch the inning prior.
