The Green Bay Packers offense was under an intense microscope from even before the start of organized team activities. Of course, that is because Brian Gutekunst and the organization decided to trade future Hall of Famer and four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets and finally make Jordan Love their starting quarterback. Former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Russell Wilson had a tumultuous 2023 season. New Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton never really got along with Wilson, and the team threatened to bench him late in the season over a contract dispute. Needless to say, Wilson’s days in Denver are going to be over soon. The problem, of course, is that Wilson has five years and over $200 million left on his contract. The Milwaukee Bucks are no longer the only team to have fired their head coach midseason this year. The Brooklyn Nets fired head coach Jacque Vaughn on Monday morning. Brooklyn is a woeful 21-22, 2.5 games out of the final play-in spot for the NBA Playoffs. Brooklyn’s decision to move on from Vaughn is the end of a rollercoaster relationship between the two parties. Vaughn was originally hired by the Nets to be head coach Kenny Atkinson’s top assistant in the 2016-17 season. The Milwaukee Brewers non-tendered Brandon Woodruff earlier this winter, making him an unrestricted free agent. It was certainly not a move that many predicted would happen going into the 2023 season. After all, Woodruff was 13-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 2022 and had come in fifth in Cy Young Award voting in 2021. If anything, many thought the Brewers would be forced to trade him, much like they traded Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles. Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard made the most of his first All-Star start. In the highest scoring contest in NBA All-Star Game history, which the Eastern Conference won 211-186, Lillard scored 39 points (14/26 from the floor, 11/23 from three), grabbed three rebounds, and dished out six assists. He also drained multiple three-point shots from half-court, proving to everyone that, despite his struggles this season, he is still one of the best shooters in the game. The Milwaukee Bucks boasted two NBA All-Star starters for the 2024 annual contest, this time a return to the classic East versus West format. And now they can boast two All-Star Game MVP’s on their roster. Giannis Antetokounmpo took home the award in the 2020-21 NBA All-Star Game, but tonight it was his teammate, Damian Lillard, who took home the honor after a blistering 39-point performance. Brandon Woodruff was non-tendered following should injuries that cost him most of last season and will keep him from pitching in 2024 as well. It appears that David Bakhtiari’s time with the Green Bay Packers is coming to an end. The three-time Pro Bowl left tackle, who has also made five All-Pro teams (two First Team All-Pros and three Second Team All-Pros) has missed the majority of the last three seasons due to knee injuries. Note: that is the plural form of the word “injury.” Bakhtiari first injured his knee in a non-contact drill during practice on December 31, 2020.
