The Marquette men’s basketball team was desperate for its first Big East victory. It needed to throw the early punch. Marquette’s best player, Justin Lewis, made sure that was the case. The Marquette men’s basketball team seemed to have recaptured its nonconference form on Saturday against Creighton. Down by as many as 17 in the second half, the Golden Eagles were moments away from a comeback victory in overtime. It would have been Marquette’s first conference victory. But, inexplicably, Shaka Smart decided not to foul up 3 with 3.3 seconds remaining. An Alex O’Connell 3-pointer forced another overtime and Creighton went on to win 75-69 in double overtime.
