Packers Roster: Which 2020 Picks Will Get a Second Contract?

There has been some discussion of late over which players from the 2020 Draft class will get a second contract in Green Bay and remain on the Packers roster. Technically, Jordan Love already has, but it’s not a true extension and instead simply replaces his 2024 fifth-year option. The Packers selected nine players in the 2020 draft: Jordan Love, AJ Dillon, Josiah Deguara, Kamal Martin, Jon Runyan Jr., Jake Hanson, Simon Stepaniak, Vernon Scott, and Jonathan Garvin. Martin, Stepaniak and Scott are already gone, and Garvin is a long shot to make the team this season due to the depth…

After a slow start, Christian Watson broke out in the second half of his rookie season with the Packers, at one point scoring eight touchdowns in a four-game span. He ended the year with 611 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns, as well as 80 yards and two scores on the ground. With veteran receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb now in New York, Watson will need to take on a bigger role in Green Bay’s offense in his sophomore campaign, and the numbers suggest he will be up to the task. A new stat created by Nate Tice of…

In the final part of the ‘Perfect Packers’ series ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft, attention turns to the cornerback group to identify the prospects who are fits for the Green Bay based on their athletic testing. Five corners have been drafted by Brian Gutekunst: Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Josh Jackson, Shemar Jean-Charles, and Ka’dar Hollman. For this exercise, Jean-Charles’ pre-draft testing will be ignored, since Gutekunst confirmed after drafting him that he does not conform to Green Bay’s usual athletic mold. Alexander, Stokes, Jackson, and Hollman all achieved at least the following results in the traditional pre-draft testing: Height:…

2023 NFL Draft: The Perfect Packers (Linebackers)

It’s the penultimate chapter of the Perfect Packers series, identifying the prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft who are fits for Green Bay based on their athletic testing. Off-ball linebackers go under inspection this time. Previous Drafted Packers Linebacks Brian Gutekunst has drafted quite a few linebackers since his first Draft in 2018: Quay Walker, Oren Burks, Kamal Martin, Isaiah McDuffie, and Ty Summers. It’s up for debate whether Tariq Carpenter is a linebacker or a safety, but he’s listed as a linebacker on his Relative Athletic Score (RAS) card, which is where the testing information for these articles has…

During his tenure as GM, Brian Gutekunst has drafted four EDGE players: Rashan Gary, Kingsley Enagbare, Jonathan Garvin, and Kendall Donnerson. In pre-draft testing, they all managed at least following measurements (note: Jonathan Garvin did not complete the agility drills and there is no hand size measurement recorded for Kendall Donnerson): Height: 6’3” Weight: 250lbs Arm length: 33” Hand size: 9.625” 40 time: 4.87s 10-yard split: 1.67s Vertical jump:…

In part four of the ‘Perfect Packers’ series, the 2023 NFL Draft’s defensive line class goes under the microscope to see which players are athletic fits for the Green Bay Packers. Brian Gutekunst has drafted five defensive linemen so far as Green Bay’s GM: Devonte Wyatt, Kingsley Keke, T.J. Slaton, James Looney, and Jonathan Ford. However, for this exercise, Ford’s testing will be disregarded. Ford is such a clear outlier for the Packers in an athletic sense, testing extremely poorly in every area. He was a seventh-round flier who is just a big body and is likely to primarily feature…

In part three of the ‘Perfect Packers’ series, the big guys come into focus. Let’s examine the offensive linemen in the 2023 NFL Draft who fit the athletic mold Green Bay has recently favored. This time, we will need two different sets of athletic measurements to determine which prospects the Packers may be interested in. One for tackles and one for centers. Why not one for guards? Green Bay doesn’t draft guards, they draft college tackles who can play guard. So, let’s kick off with the offensive tackle position. Brian Gutekunst has drafted seven of them as the Packers GM:…

In part two of the ‘Perfect Packers’ series, wide receivers go under the microscope to see which prospects are likely to be on Green Bay’s board ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. Since Brian Gutekunst became general manager, he has drafted seven wide receivers: Christian Watson, Amari Rodgers, Romeo Doubs, J’Mon Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown and Samori Toure. In pre-draft testing, these players achieved at least the following athletic measurements (Note: There is no official testing for Doubs. St. Brown did not complete the broad jump, shuttle, or 3-cone): Height: 5’9.4” Weight: 191 40 time: 4.60 10-yard split:…
