Wisconsin men’s basketball moves up three spots Monday in the AP Top 25 Poll, listed at No. 10 in the nation. The Badgers also found themselves moving up in the rankings after two road wins last week against Minnesota and Rutgers.   Other Big Ten Conference teams listed in this week’s updated AP Poll included No. 8 Purdue, No. 20 Illinois, No. 23 Ohio State and No. 24 Iowa.  The Badgers is projected as a three seed in ESPN college basketball analyst Joe Lunardi’s latest mock bracket released Monday. Marquette is the seven seed in ESPN college basketball analyst Joe Lunardi’s latest mock bracket updated Tuesday. Auburn, Purdue, Duke and Providence are other teams in the same region as the Golden Eagles.  The Big East is projected to have seven teams in the tournament as of now. The Marquette men’s basketball team fell to conference rival Providence 65-63 on Sunday. Senior guard Darryl Morsell led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 15 points, while also collecting five rebounds, five assists, and six steals.  Marquette controlled the game for the majority until the second half when Providence really started to come into their own. In the first half, grad student Kur Kuath made a dunk assisted by Morsell, which brought the Golden Eagles to an early 17-9 lead with nine minutes remaining. The Wisconsin men’s basketball team continued their winning streak. Now winners of five in a row, they defeated conference rival Maryland on the road, 70-69. Junior forward Tyler Wahl led all Badgers in scoring with 21 points, along with five rebounds and a block.  Other contributions came from sophomore guard Johnny Davis who scored 19 points for the Badgers and senior Brad Davidson. Davidson had 11 points as well.  Wisconsin picked up the tempo early on. They started the game scoring from everywhere on the court. Marquette loses their third conference game to Creighton in a 75-69 contest. The Golden Eagles were able to come back from a 17 point deficit and extend the game to two overtimes, however fell short in the final minutes. Redshirt freshman Oso Ighodaro led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 22 points while shooting 10-12 from the field. Ighodaro also managed to grab five rebounds as well. The Badgers (8-2, 1-1) were in for a test in their second conference game of the year as they were on the road versus No. 21 ranked Ohio State (8-2, 2-0).  Wisconsin was coming off a six game win streak after previously taking down two valid teams, Indiana and Marquette. The Badgers advance to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational after defeating No. 12 Houston 65-63. Sophomore guard Johnny Davis led all scores with 30 points while shooting 10-18 from the field. Wisconsin was able to find their way early in the game, as the Badgers started the contest on a 13-0 run within the first few minutes. Davis started the game scoring 11 of Wisconsin’s first 16 points. Houston started to pick it up themselves but continued to struggle defensively throughout the first half. Wisconsin (5-1, 0-0) defeated Saint Mary’s (6-1, 0-0) in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational championship game 61-55. This marks Wisconsin’s first championship in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.  Sophomore guard Johnny Davis led the way for the Badgers with 20 points and tallied seven rebounds. Junior forward Tyler Wahl also finished with 18 points in 36 minutes of play. It was a rough first half for the Badgers as they struggled to get their offense in rhythm. Marquette (5-0) added their fifth win of the year after defeating West Virginia (3-1) in the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic. Marquette started the game off slow, playing from behind nearly the entire first half. The Golden Eagles were down 12 points by the end of the first half. The momentum started to shift when Marquette started shooting lights out in the second half going on a 13-0 run. Marquette knocked down nine threes alone in the second half. Marquette Defeats No. 8 Illinois Marquette men’s basketball got their first big time win of the year. The Golden Eagles put on a show as they came back from 10 points with 9:26 left in the game. Senior guard Darryl Morsell led the way in scoring with 21 points.  This marks newly named head coach Shaka Smart’s first ranked win as a coach for Marquette. The game plan was clear from Smart, slowing down the Illinois offense. Marquette was able to hold Illinois to just shooting 37.9 percent from the field.
