Most experts agree the Packers primary need in the 2022 draft is at the wide receiver position. They traded away all-world Davante Adams. MVS left for Kansas City as a free agent. There’s plenty of receiver prospects to consider. It’s easily this year’s deepest position. Many view Ohio State’s Chris Olave or George Pickens out of the University of Georgia as likely draft targets.  While many Packers fans would be happy with either one of these receivers, it might be better to take a step back.  Most skill position players don’t have a major impact until their third season.…

Packers draft needs

Much has been made of the Packers’ early-round needs heading into next month’s NFL draft. Green Bay holds four picks in the first two rounds.  The consensus among many draft experts is the Packers will look to replace Davante Adams and MVS early. Mock drafts suggesting the Packers take a receiver early are becoming almost redundant. Everyone has an opinion, and much of it is just guesswork. Will Chris Olave be there at 22, or even 29? Will the Packers try to trade up to get into the top ten?  This isn’t about any of that. It takes a deeper…

Packers fans are some of the most passionate in all of sports.  But a wedge has been driven into the heart of Packers nation since the playoff loss to San Francisco. There is a large and clear gap between two camps.  One side supports Aaron Rodgers and wants Green Bay to do whatever is needed to keep him in Green Bay. The other largely places the blame for this year’s playoff loss – and suddenly many other years as well – squarely on Rodgers’ shoulders. They’ve grown tired of “Rodgers drama” and want the organization to move on. There is…

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams of the Green Bay Packers

The Packers’ 2022 salary cap situation is a dumpster fire, to put it mildly.  This is the worst-kept secret in the league as the offseason approaches following Sunday’s Super Bowl. However, there’s two names – everyone knows them – that first come to mind when envisioning Green Bay’s 2022 roster.  One is under contract for 2022; the other is a free agent.  But putting Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams aside, there’s a handful of other players entering the final year of their contracts who are worthy of new ones. By extending these players, the Packers can push at least part…

Much has been made of Aaron Rodgers’ future following the Packers’ 2021 season.  Rodgers has made it clear he doesn’t want to be around for a rebuild and has committed to a decision on his future before free agency starts in March.  While the Packers wait for that announcement, there’s plenty of “experts” who cover other teams that have insisted Rodgers “wants out of Green Bay.”  Citing so-called “sources”, teams like the Broncos, Steelers, and Titans have been mentioned as Rodgers’ preferred landing spots. Titans “Sources” Jared Stillman, who covers the Titans for an ESPN affiliate…

The Packers’ 2022 salary cap situation is bleak, to say the least. They are approximately $43 million over the cap going into the offseason. This number rises to about $63 million with the space needed to sign rookies and complete a 53-man roster.  What about signing Davante Adams?  And what about Aaron Rodgers? Tough decisions lie ahead with Robert Tonyan, De’Vondre Campbell, Lucas Patrick, and others. $63 million is a huge number.  Green Bay does have options to create cap space, and the cap improves dramatically in 2023 and beyond. What lies ahead could keep the Packers at the top…

Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, two legendary quarterbacks for the Green Bay Packers

Following victories in the first two Super Bowls, the Packers entered a 25-year stretch of sustained mediocrity.  Older fans remember some very lean years in the 70s.  There was a few bright spots in the 80s – James Lofton and Don Majkowski immediately come to mind. Sadly, both of those careers in Green Bay ended rather unceremoniously.  Majkowski was injured early in the 1990 season and never returned to the stellar play from his 1989 campaign.  James Lofton was a perennial Pro Bowler and AP All-Pro, but sexual assault allegations led to him being traded.  Late in the 1991 season,…
