The Indianapolis Colts have named rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson one of their seven captains for the 2023 season. Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Florida. He is trying to provide stability for a franchise that is in disarray at the current moment with all of the Jonathan Taylor drama going on.
The Colts are a rebuilding football team and Anthony Richardson will look to learn a lot from head coach Shane Steichen, who was the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator a season ago. He helped Jalen Hurts develop into a viable quarterback and an MVP candidate.
There is not a lot of help around Anthony Richardson this season. Having Jonathan Taylor in the backfield would have been nice, but he is on the PUP list to start the season and he may not even play a down for Indianapolis this season.
Anthony Richardson’s Players To Work With on the Indianapolis Colts
Anthony Richardson during his rookie season is going to go through growing pains. He is a raw prospect and his passing game will be a work in progress, but there is no denying his speed and athleticism in the running game. His backup quarterback this season will be Gardner Minshew.
Zack Moss, Deon Jackson, and rookie Evan Hull will be the running backs in the backfield in the meantime. The starting wide receivers for the Colts this season will be Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and rookie Josh Downs. Kylen Granson will be the starting tight end and hopefully, the offensive line led by Quenton Nelson will be better this season as well.
Anthony Richardson being a captain on this football team as a rookie is a big deal because there were a lot of questions about him heading out of college. Will see how he performs but will have growing pains. Richardson’s life would be much easier if he had Jonathan Taylor, but will see what occurs in Week 1 when Indianapolis hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars.
