The Green Bay Packers quarterback situation will be interesting to follow this upcoming offseason. Not only is Aaron Rodgers‘ future uncertain, but Jordan Love also made headlines recently. Love is rumored to be seeking a trade in 2023.
Packers’ Jordan Love Could Seek Trade If Rodgers Returns in 2023
On Tuesday, during The Pat McAfee Show, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz shared his opinion on what the future may hold for the Packers’ young backup QB.
“The issue for Jordan Love is he’s a first-round pick in 2020, and he’s barely played,” Schultz said. “This is a guy who is 24 and believes, as do some people around the league, that he’s a starting quarterback or should get an opportunity. So, I believe, yes, he will ask for a trade if that were to transpire, and I think it’s in his best interest to do that.”
It’s no surprise that Jordan Love is itching for his chance to be a starting quarterback. However, he’s only been in the league for three years. He was drafted in the first-round of the 2020 NFL draft, 26th overall.
Aaron Rodgers followed a similar path to the one Love is currently on. Rodgers was drafted 24th overall in the 2005 NFL draft and did get his chance to start until 2008.
Love seeking a trade may be a premature decision. Recently, Love spoke about how fortunate he was to not be thrown into a starting role right away.
If I was somewhere else, starting right away, obviously it’s hard for rookie quarterbacks and young quarterbacks, Love said. And if it doesn’t go your way right away, it’s like, they’re already looking for someone else to replace you. It’s tough. I just think I’m getting this opportunity to sit, learn and not be thrown into the fire right away, and I think it’ll pay off — for sure.”
Nevertheless, the Packers’ 2023 offseason and their quarterback situation will be one of the most interesting storylines to follow throughout the entire NFL.
