There are a lot of prospects to be excited about within the Brewers farm system.  Jackson Chourio headlines that list.  He was recently announced as MVP of the Carolina League.  In addition to Chourio is 19 year old outfielder Jace Avina.  Avina was recently announced as the Arizona Complex League MVP.

Avina was drafted in the 14th round of the 2021 draft out of Spanish Springs High School.  Initially, he was committed to play college baseball at the University of Nevada.  Eventually, he elected to sign with the Brewers in order to begin professional baseball.  This year, he made his debut in the Arizona Complex League and eventually was promoted to Low-A.

How did Avina perform in 2022?

As mentioned, Avina was the MVP of the Arizona Complex League.  There he appeared in 36 games and mashed 10 home runs! He slashed .294/.436/.630/1.067 over that time as well.  This was good enough to grant him MVP honors.  The MVP award was voted on by league managers.

In Low-A, Avina got started with a bang.  During his debut, he hit two long balls.   In total, he would appear in 28 games, hit five home runs, and drive in 25 batters.  His batting average over that stretch was .245 and he had an OPS over .800.

Avina does not turn 20 years old until mid next summer  Like a lot of Brewer prospects it appears as if he could be on the fast track and may rise through the minor leagues quickly.  He should be a fun prospect to watch and keep an eye on.
