Tensions were high in Minneapolis last night, but the Brewers attempted comeback fell short in extra innings. The struggling Brett Anderson takes the mound against veteran left-hander Rich Hill.
Minnesota makin’ moves
Minnesota’s ball club faced a predicament this off-season. Four out of the five starters were up for free agency. Last night’s star, Kenta Maeda was a part of the three-team, Mookie Betts blockbuster trade. Jake Odorizzi accepted the team’s one-year offer, but that still left holes to fill. Veteran pitchers Homer Bailey and Rich Hill were signed to one-year deals on the same day. Sometimes that can change a team for the better, Brewers’ fans know that all too well.
The Twins starting rotation is good.
All of the moves have worked in the Twins favor, except for Bailey and Odorizzi, who are dealing with injuries. Tonight’s starter, Rich Hill joined the team in late July as he was recovering from elbow surgery. The Twins took a chance on him, and it has worked out so far. Hill inked a win his last time out when he pitched five scoreless innings and gave up two hits. To play into the Brewers’ favor, his last start was a month ago. The 40-year-old starter missed three starts due to left shoulder fatigue.
Splits vs. Brewers
The former Dodger has faced the Brewers before. In nine career games, Hill is 3-1 with a 3.35 ERA in 51 innings pitched and a WHIP of 1.118. The Brewers’ offense will see primarily a fastball and curveball from Hill. In one start Hill is 1-0 with a 0.60 WHIP. Could be another tough matchup for the Brewers’ offense that can’t seem to figure out the Twins’ starters.
Struggling Brett Anderson
Brett Anderson is still looking for his first win of the season. His last start was one of his better ones and his longest. In Chicago, he went 4 ⅓ innings and gave up two runs. Anderson is 0-2 with a 1.64 WHIP in 11 innings pitched. If his struggles continue he could end up like Eric Lauer and miss a start to figure things out.
