INF Luis Urias reinstated from 60-day injured list.
It’s good to have Wicho back.
Urias has been out since opening day against the Chicago Cubs when he slid into first base on a ground ball. Urias rehabbed with the Brewers Triple-A Affiliate Nashville Sounds. In nine games, he batted .200, with eight hits, and four RBI’s in 40 plate appearances.
These numbers aren’t indicative of Urias’ play because he’s been a strong hitter at the major league level but at this point Milwaukee needs as many skill position players back as possible.
Milwaukee is batting .230 as a team good for 26th in the majors only the Seattle Mariners (.228), Detroit Tigers (.226), San Diego Padres (.221) and Oakland A’s (.217) are hitting for a lower average than Milwaukee.
Hopefully Urias can bring life to this offense, or give the entire team that special stuff from Space Jam.
Darin Ruf transferred to the 60-day injured list
I know he was the bane of Frank The Tank’s existence, but Ruf was brought in because throughout his career, he hit left-handed pitching really well (Via FanGraphs, Ruf is a career .270 hitter against lefties.)
His predecessor Luke Voit struggled against left-handed pitching; batting .091, three hits, and 20 strikeouts in 33 at-bats.
Ruf on the Brewers hit .242, eight hits, seven walks, and three RBI’s in 33 plate appearances for Milwaukee.
Ruf unfortunately will be out awhile after sustaining a right-patella fracture after running into a tarp while chasing a foul ball against the Reds on Friday night.
Mike Brosseau optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
This move wasn’t surprising as Milwaukee needed to clear up room for Urias, and the eventual return of shortstop Willy Adames.
Brosseau in 73 plate appearances this year, is batting .205, with four home runs, and eight RBI’s. Brosseau is more known for his defensive versatility than his prowess at the plate.
Brewers getting healthy at the right time:
As mentioned above: Urias got activated off the injured list on Monday, Adames could return as soon as Thursday Matt Bush is beginning a rehab assignment for Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Wade Miley will make a rehab start with Double-A Biloxi on Sunday, and Eric Lauer is starting a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. With the Brewers holding a 0.5 lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates heading into Monday, this team getting healthy at the right time is important if they hope to extend their lead in the NL Central.
