Paul Chryst is now out as the Wisconsin Badgers head coach. The Badgers are in search of a new head man. According to an analysts, NC State head coach Dave Doeren “would crawl” to get the Wisconsin head coaching job.
Thoughts on Dave Doeren
Pete Thamel recently spoke about his thoughts on a possible next head coach for the Badgers. Pete Thamel said on ESPN’s “College GameDay” podcast episode that was released on Monday that NC State coach Dave Doeren would want the job.
“My hunch is Dave Doeren would crawl there. He has Midwest ties. There’s some risk with Leonhard, there aren’t a whole lot of certainties once you go past that,” Thamel said on the podcast, via 247Sports.
Doeren Coaching History
Dave Doeren was an assistant for the Badgers from 2006-10 as the co-defensive coordinator. He was promoted as the primary defensive coordinator two years after being a Badgers assistant.. Doeren won the MAC Championship with the Huskies in 2011.
NIU won the GoDaddy bowl game under Doeren in his first season. The team won a second conference championship one year later in 2012, but he did not coach during the bowl game that season.
Dave Doeren went 23-4 in two seasons at Northern Illinois. He has went 68-50 since 2013 with three nine-win seasons as the head guy at NC State currently sitting at 4-1 in 2022.
Badgers Under Paul Chryst
In seven seasons as the Badgers head coach, Paul Chryst went 65-23. Chryst held a 43-16 BIG record during that time. Wisconsin won the West Division in three seasons under the former head coach Five games into 2022, the Badgers are 2-3 following losses by Ohio State and Illinois. The former coach just could not get the team together early this season. Overall, he had a good run until it was time for someone else to step in and take over the coaching duties.
Badgers Jim Leonhard is Interim HC
The Badgers defensive coordinator is in position as the interim head coach. Fans of Wisconsin are wanting to see Leonhard have a shot at the job. A culture change is needed, as well as a new mentality on both sides of the ball.
If Jim Leonhard, does not work out, Dave Doeren is only a phone call away. Doeren does have some history with the Badgers, so a chance at landing him might be possible.
