The Packers tendered an exclusive rights free agent tender on WR Allen Lazard on March 16th. At the time the Packers fully expected Lazard to sign the tender sheet offer. Both sides reportedly wanted to get a new deal done.
What is going on now with Allen Lazard?
It is now two full months later, and these Packers signed their exclusive rights free agent tenders (which likely means they were in attendance for the start of the offseason program):
Krys Barnes
Dominique Dafney
Jake Hanson
Yosh Nijman
Randy Ramsey
Malik Taylor
Allen Lazard has not yet signed his RFA deal. Packers have sole negotiating rights for Lazard in 2022. The Packers have to right to reduce the RFA tender down to $935K on June 15 if he is still unsigned. Lazard is likely looking for a bigger deal, but the CBA is stacked against him.
Allen Lazard doesn’t have much leverage:
Lazard can’t play for another team unless the Packers cut him loose… which isn’t going to happen. They can say “Play for us for almost $4 million or play for us for less than $1 million, your choice”. Lazard doesn’t have much leverage here, still, it is concerning that Lazard hasn’t signed his tender yet.
He essentially has two options: to stay away all off-season and not play (doubtful), or sign his tender before June 15th for $4 Million Dollars.
