Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander last played on November 17 against the Chicago Bears. Alexander was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury right before the playoffs began.
With the offseason in full swing now for the Packers, they will have a major decision to make this offseason on the former first-round pick. Jaire Alexander has had injury issues over the last two seasons and it is possible that they could be moving on from him this offseason.
Dairylandexpress.com Writer Joe Summers Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Will Move On From Cornerback Jaire Alexander This Offseason
Dairylandexpress.com writer Joe Summers wrote about 10 different players who the Green Bay Packers could potentially move on from this offseason after the latest playoff loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. One player that Summers thinks Green Bay should move on from this offseason is cornerback Jaire Alexander. Summers said:
“This one will hurt more than any other player on this list. A two-time All-Pro, Jaire Alexander has established himself as one of the most dominant defensive backs in the NFL. Unfortunately, Alexander’s lack of availability doomed his time in Green Bay and left him as an unreliable starter.
He allowed just an 89.6 passer rating when targeted in coverage, though Alexander couldn’t reach the heights he previously achieved. As a pending free agent, it appears likely that the stellar corner will be looking for a new team in 2025.
The Packers would almost certainly prefer that Alexander comes back, yet his potential salary demands may torpedo those efforts.
His supreme confidence bolsters the roster. Even still, Alexander was limited to just seven games in each of the last two seasons. He isn’t reliable and the Packers need to manage the roster with that in mind.
The 2018 first-round pick is an elite player when he’s on the field. Unfortunately for both Alexander and Packers fans, the fan-favorite defender isn’t reliable from a health perspective. Hopefully things turn around, though there’s litte reason to believe they will.”
This past season with the Green Bay Packers, he recorded 16 tackles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, one defensive touchdown, and seven pass deflections. When healthy, Jaire Alexander is by far the best cornerback on the Packers roster.
Contract Situation
According to Spotrac, the Packers can get out of the Alexander contract entirely before the start of the 2025 NFL season. If they were to release him this offseason, it would be a dead cap of $19,092,000 million.
If they were not to release him, he would not be a free agent until after the 2026 season. There is a chance that the Green Bay Packers could also trade him. Green Bay should explore a potential Alexander trade first. If they don’t trade him, then they should release him this offseason and start over at the cornerback position for the 2025 NFL season.
