The Milwaukee Brewers have a clear off-season need: adding an impact bat who can also play the infield. With shortstop Willy Adames signing elsewhere and limited options in free agency at that position, acquiring a third baseman seems like the most straightforward solution. For some time now, Philadelphia Phillies’ Alec Bohm has been a prominent name in trade rumors as a potential fit, but at MLB Winter Meetings it was announced that he is not being shopped.
Philadelphia Phillies Alec Bohm is “not being shopped”
On MLB Network, Phillies manager Rob Thompson came out and said, “I know the rumors are flying all over the place. We’re not shopping Alec Bohm.” He also went on to point out that Bohm has grown both physically and mentally over the last three to four years, his defense has come a long ways, and his ability to make contact makes him an extremely valuable asset to his team.

Does this news rule the Milwaukee Brewers out from acquiring Alec Bohm?
No, but the Phillies asking price may be much higher than expected. Rob Thomson went on to say that they are receiving offers for Alec Bohm and listening to them. Bob Nightengale previously reported that Philadelphia had included Bohm in an offer to the Chicago White Sox involving Garrett Crochet, but it was rejected. To me, this indicates that any deal involving Bohm will have to include at least one significant MLB contributor who preferably has multiple years of team control remaining.
Is a deal involving Devin Williams and Alec Bohm on the table?
Before the Winter Meetings began, a hypothetical trade sending closer Devin Williams to Philadelphia and Alec Bohm to Milwaukee seemed like a reasonable fit, given each team’s needs. However, since then, the Phillies have signed former All-Star closer Jordan Romano. Although Philadelphia is still seeking bullpen help, it’s now clear that, given Devin Williams has only one year of team control remaining, acquiring Alec Bohm may require a package that includes Williams, an MLB player or MLB-ready prospect, and an additional prospect for the Phillies to consider moving him.
