AJ Dillion is a solid running back when healthy but he failed to show that for the Green Bay Packers in their recently concluded season as he never set foot on the field due to a season-ending injury.
He signed a one-year contract before the opening and now, with their season over, he is among those who will enter free agency.
Will he remain a Packer when the new season comes? The 26-year-old running back is not sure.
However, he suggested in an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber that he is attached to the Green Bay community and the decision is not entirely in his hands.
I always say that regardless of football, that it’s just a caveat of why I’m here. But the Packers organization has given me great opportunities. So, as far as next year, next steps, that’s kind of beyond me until it gets to that point. But I’m doing everything I can to be in the best shape and be ready to go and be the best I’ve been yet.
Dillon joined the Packers in 2020 as a 62nd overall pick. In his first four seasons, he was able to carry the ball 597 times for a total of 2,428 yards. He also had a total of 16 touchdowns.
He is just one of 18 Packers whose future with the team are to be decided by the offseason.
AJ Dillon discusses health status for 2025
Dillon was unable to get healthy just in time to help the Packers in their playoff game (and loss) against the much favored Philadelphia Eagles in the wildcard round.
He said that he is still in his road to recovery but he is excited about what he can offer once he is out there again.
‘I don’t know. I probably wouldn’t put a timetable on it, but I was in here working out, I was still working to stay in shape,” he said when asked when he will feel good again.
“You don’t want to fall all the way off. I’ve been around trying to attack each day, and I’m real confident in being able to be back next year. It’s going to be awesome as a running back trying to go into Year 6. It’s pretty sick.”
