Will Aaron Rodgers remain with the New York Jets come the 2025 season? An agent said there is a possibility he won’t be.
The one-time Super Bowl champion’s career has been one of the hottest topics since the end of the Jets’ 2024-25 season and while he is mum about his future plans, just getting busy talking about politics at the moment, others just can’t shut up about him.
NFL contracts and salary cap expert Joel Corry believes the 41-year-old won’t step foot at MetLife Stadium as an ally again this year. The reason behind? Salary restructuring.
The dead money gets worse if the Jets were to bring Rodgers back in 2025 on his existing contract. Picking up the option in Rodgers’ contract for a 2029 contract year requires a $35 million payment. Rodgers’ unsecured $37.5 million 2025 base salary will drop to $2.5 million in the process.
There’s an unusually long window to exercise this option that extends to a day before New York’s first 2025 regular-season game. This $35 million option bonus will be prorated on the salary cap at $7 million annually from 2025 through 2029.
Aaron Rodgers and the new Jets management
The Green Bay Packers legend is yet to decide on his future. Talking to reporters back in December, he said, “I’m open to everything and attached to nothing.’
Major changes are happening though in the Jets organization. First, there is a regime change.
The team welcomed a new coach in Aaron Glenn, becoming the first player from the franchise in the last 50 years to coach the team.
Broadcaster Michael Kay, as quoted by Jets writer and Take Flight CEO Harrison Glaser, said Glenn is leaning towards keeping Rodgers in the line-up.
“There’s word out there, there’s been leaks I’ve heard, that Aaron Glenn has made it known that he would like to keep Aaron Rodgers,” he wrote.

That is Glenn’s position. However, he needs to consult it first with the general manager which is still vacant to this day.
