Aaron Rodgers and Jared Goff are about to go head-to-head in a potential win-an-in game for both teams. The path to the playoffs for Rodgers and Co. is simple, beat the Lions on Sunday night, and they’re in.
On the opposing side, the Detroit Lions could be eliminated from playoff contention before the game even kicks off. If the Seattle Seahawks beat the Los Angeles Rams, then the Lions can kiss their playoff hopes goodbye. However, if Seattle loses, then the Packers vs. Lions game becomes much more interesting.
Two former Cal quarterbacks will be taking center stage under the lights at Lambeau Field. Both Rodgers and Goff are California natives, played in one Super Bowl, and were drafted in the first round. Rodgers has the upper hand, winning his only Super Bowl appearance in 2011, while Goff fell to the Tom Brady-led Patriots in 2019.
Aaron Rodgers vs Jared Goff Head-To-Head Series
Jared Goff and Aaron Rodgers will be facing off for the sixth time on Sunday night. Goff actually has the edge 3-2, which is rather unexpected. Although, one of Rodgers’ losses came in the final regular-season game last year, when the Packers already clinched the No. 1 seed. Rodgers only played in the first half of that game. Green Bay won the other matchup during that season, beating the Lions 35-17.
When Goff was a member of the Los Angeles Rams, he played against Aaron Rodgers twice. The first time coming during the 2018 regular-season, where the Rams beat the Packers 29-27. The other time was in 2021 during the playoffs. The Packers managed to win that game 32-18. However, Green Bay lost the following week in the NFC championship game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who went on to win the Super Bowl.
The most recent Goff-Rodgers game came earlier this season in Week 9. It was an ugly game for the Packers, who lost 9-15. Aaron Rodgers threw three interceptions and had his lowest QB rating ever verses Detroit. The loss marked the fifth in a row for the Packers as they fell to 3-6. But Green Bay is an entirely different team now. They seemed to find their footing when it mattered most. The Packers are now 8-8 and in the midst of a four game winning streak.
Also sitting at 8-8 are the Detroit Lions. Since they faced the Packers in Week 9, they have won six of their last eight games and are looking to punch their ticket to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Both the Lions and Packers have had remarkable turnaround seasons. Goff might have the head-to-head advantage, however, none of that will matter on Sunday night. The only thing on the mind of the two former Cal quarterbacks will be leading their team to a Week 18 victory.
