Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are only one win away from clinching the final NFC playoff spot. They are also one loss away from missing the playoffs for the first time since 2018. Regardless of the result on Sunday, the Packers have battled back during a season that seemed doomed not too long ago.
At 4-8, Rodgers and the Packers couldn’t afford another loss. With their backs against the wall, the Packers won four-straight games and are desperately close to completing an improbable late-season playoff push.
Aaron Rodgers Told To “Shut The Hell Up”
No matter the result against the Lions, this could be Aaron Rodgers’ last game at Lambeau Field, or as a Green Bay Packer. It’s a real possibility that Rodgers could even retire after this season. Rodgers was asked about that possibility earlier this week.
“I’m (still) going to take some time after the season,” Rodgers said on Wednesday during a session with reporters at his locker. “I’ve got a lot of great memories here at Lambeau — and hopefully can add another one on Sunday.”
Rodgers was also asked if he believes any last-time-at-Lambeau thoughts might cross his mind during the game.
“I mean, for sure, just because you don’t know what the future holds,” Rodgers said. “But when I think about that, it’s nothing but gratitude. Not remorse or sadness, just gratitude for the time that I’ve been here, and the amazing memories that I’ve had on this field.
“(There’s) been a lot of great moments, but (I’m) still undecided (about next season). We’re all undecided about the future. (I’m) just going to enjoy Sunday night and hopefully have some more to play for.”
Aaron Rodgers’ response did not sit well with Stephen A. Smith. Smith, who is typically supportive of Rodgers, went on an epic rant about the four-time MVP, telling him multiple times to “shut the hell up” and focus on winning his next game, not the memories.
Smith clearly wasn’t a fan of Aaron Rodgers reflecting on the past while he still has a playoff spot on the line. Maybe a Packers’ win on Sunday will make Stephen A. Smith ‘shut the hell up’ (highly unlikely).
