For perhaps the first time in his career, Aaron Rodgers does not solely bare the burden of winning games for the Green Bay Packers. Throughout the course of his career, he has led high-powered offenses into shootouts and many, many regular season victories. This year, however, that has not been the case. Rodgers and the offense have struggled to find their identity in the post-Davante Adams era of Packers football. Fortunately, the Packers finally have something that they have not had for over 10 years: a defense that can win them some games. Indeed, the defense has been excellent so far this season (except for run defense).
Aaron Rodgers Admits He Needs to Play Better
As good as the defense has been, the offense has been just as inconsistent. There have been flashes of great plays, especially from Aaron Jones and Romeo Doubs. However, Rodgers already three interceptions this season (after having four all of last season). For the most part, Green Bay has been relying on their defense to win them games so far this year. This is a way of winning that, according to Rodgers, is not sustainable:
Aaron Rodgers: “This is a game we had to win, for sure. We can’t be 2-2 losing to a third-string quarterback.”

Of course, part of taking the pressure of the defense is improved quarterback play by Rodgers himself. As mentioned, he has already thrown three interceptions this season. The pick he threw against the Patriots was returned for a touchdown, just the fourth pick-six of his career. On top of the turnovers, Rodgers has been missing wide receivers, overthrowing on deep passes, and has refused to simply allow Aaron Jones take over when he gets hot.
The Packers Will Figure It Out
The good news for the Packers is that Aaron Rodgers is a very smart football player. Aaron Jones is having a phenomenal year, and once they fully dedicate the offense to running through him, the sky will be the limit. Of course, this is an adjustment, and adjustments take time. However, as the season progresses, they will become more and more of what we all know this offense can be. That is, they will be a run-first offense with a dynamic passing attack that balance each other out perfectly.

As long as they can keep winning ugly, they will be in great position when they start winning pretty.
