The Green Bay Packers failed to add offensive weapons for Aaron Rodgers prior to the trade deadline. It’s been glaringly obvious that the Packers have been struggling on the offensive side of the ball. Well, at least in the passing attack, specifically the wide receivers. There was a strong sense of hope among fans that Green Bay would make at least one deal before Tuesday’s deadline. Players like Brandin Cooks, Jerry Jeudy, and Chase Claypool were all rumored to be on the Packers’ radar. However, rumors stayed rumors and nothing ever materialized.
Regardless of how you perceived the Packers’ trade deadline silence, Green Bay is going to have to march forward with what they currently have. Fans are still optimistic of a possible wide receiver free-agent signing, but if the trade deadline is any indication, they shouldn’t get their hopes up.
Aaron Rodgers Addresses the Packers’ Uneventful Trade Deadline
During Rodgers’ weekly press conference on Wednesday, he kept things professional regarding the Packers’ decision to not make any trades. Rodgers was asked about general manager Brian Gutekunst’s lack of moves. “The compensation for whatever players we were going after just didn’t make sense,” Rodgers said, via USA Today. “So I trust Brian, and we had some good conversations. We were in on some things. It just didn’t pan out.”
Later, Rogers was asked if he thought a trade needed to be made. “That’s not my area of focus,” Rodgers said. “Brian didn’t think whatever was out there was worth whatever was required of what was given up. That just sends a message to us that we’ve got to play with the guys we’ve got and win with the guys we’ve got.”
Rodgers Responds To Trades Made By NFC Rivals
The Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles currently sit atop the NFC. Both teams made significant roster moves prior to the deadline. Rodgers was asked what he thought about the moves made by his rivals. “Well, with all due respect to those teams, we’re chasing some other teams right now,” Rodgers said, via PFT. “We’ve got to get back in the hunt. Those teams are out front right now. So I’m worried about our guys that we’ve got in the locker room. . . . Like I said, I know we were in on some guys, and liked a few. But it just didn’t work out.”
Fans may have wanted to see the Packers make some sort of noise before the November 1 deadline. However, Aaron Rodgers seemed content on the surface. Rodgers is ready to put the past behind him and move forward with hopes of making a run at the playoffs during the second half of the NFL season.
