There is no way around it: former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a disastrous run with the New York Jets during his two seasons with the team. After missing virtually of the 2023 NFL season with a torn Achilles, the four-time NFL MVP saw his 2024 Jets squad limp to a 5-12 record in what was one of the most disappointing seasons in the league.
During the 2024 season, Rodgers clashed with Jets ownership and the front office, though they did their best to accommodate him and give their star quarterback everything they wanted. After New York started 2-3, the fired head coach Robert Saleh and replaced him with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. They also went out and got Rodgers’ favorite wide receiver, former Packers star Davante Adams; but it was not enough to salvage their season.
Now, Rodgers is a free agent and still deciding if he wants to play in the NFL. Ulbrich, meanwhile, was not retained by the Jets and was hired as the defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons.
Former Aaron Rodgers Coach Jeff Ulbrich Sees Son Take Responsibility for Shadeur Sanders Prank Call

While much of the NFL world was focused on Rodgers and his future leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, their attention quickly turned to the steep slide of former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders. As ESPN’s Mel Kiper made abundantly clear whenever he was given a free split second to talk over the weekend, he believed Sanders was a top-five talent and should have been taken in the first round.
However, Sanders did not hear his name called on Thursday when the first round took place. He also did not hear his name called on Friday during rounds two and three. Sanders did, though, get an awfully cruel prank phone call during this time, from a caller claiming to be an NFL representative and telling him he would have to wait longer to be drafted.
As it turns out, that call was orchestrated by Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of Jeff Ulbrich, Rodgers’ former coach in New York.
The younger Ulbrich posted a public apology on Instagram on Sunday after he reached out to the Sanders family via phone to apologize privately:

Sanders was eventually selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns. Of the prank, Sanders said, “It didn’t really have an impact on me because it was just like, I mean, OK, like I don’t feed into negativity, or I don’t feed into that stuff. You’ve seen on Deion [Sanders] Jr.’s YouTube video my reaction to it, I don’t — it is what it is. I think, of course, it is childish. Of course, I feel like it was a childish act, but everybody does childish things here and there.”
One must admire the grace that the new Browns quarterback is showing Ulbrich’s son, who is not much younger than he.
