Aaron Rodgers has been with the Packers for 17 seasons, being the starting quarterback since 2008. He recently signed a three year contract extension over the summer. The question is, how much longer will fans see him play in a Packers uniform? With the new offensive pieces in rookie wide receiver Christian Watson and rookie receiver Romeo Doubs, Rodgers might find motivation in sticking with Green Bay for the long haul.
Rodgers May Have Desire to Play Long Term
In a press conference with reporters after practice, he left the door open for that possibility when asked about how much longer he wants to play and what factors into his decision. “Seeing the development of those young guys can’t help but be a part of the decision”. He also mentioned how important it is for him to evaluate where the team is as a whole over the next couple of seasons. If the team continues on an upward trajectory, especially this season there is little to no reason to think that Rodgers would not stick around. While the offense has had a few struggles early on this year, there is increased optimism that it will only get better with time.
The other big question regarding his longevity is health. As many football fans know, Rodgers has had his fair share of injuries over the years from a bad MCL sprain in his knee in 2018 to breaking both his left and right collarbone and he played through a torn left calf while leading the Packers on their playoff run in 2014. But Rodgers is a competitor and will do whatever it takes to win games when he is on the field.
Closing Thoughts
As long as the Packers have number 12 out on the field every Sunday, don’t count them out.
