Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off their second loss in a row and third overall in the 2025 NFL season. In Week 8, the Steelers hosted Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers, but the revenge game win Rodgers was looking for did not materialize, as the Packers edged Pittsburgh, 35-25.
Amid that setback for the Steelers, reports surfaced about Pittsburgh showing interest in a former teammate of Rodgers with the Packers in free agent wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. It remains to be seen whether the Steelers would indeed sign MVS to their practice squad, but Rodgers seemed excited already over the prospect of playing with the veteran wide receiver again.
“I love MVS. I’ve always enjoyed playing with him,” Rodgers said of the wide receiver (h/t Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com). “He’s one of my favorite teammates of all-time. He is a really special guy, and I think MVS can still really play. You saw last year when he was in New Orleans, he had opportunities. He had a lot of big touchdowns. He could still run.”
Will the Steelers add former Aaron Rodgers Packers teammate to the active roster if signed?

With the Steelers seemingly okay with their wide receiver room, there doesn’t appear to be a space on the Steelers’ active roster for Valdes-Scantling, who spent four seasons with Green Bay. That said, he will always have Rodgers’ approval.
“I think MVS wants to be on an active roster, so if there wasn’t an opportunity here for that, then I guess he’s waiting for something else,” Rodgers added. “But I don’t fault him. I love MVS. Whether he is here or somewhere else, I’m always pulling for him.”
Selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Packers, Valdes-Scantling appeared in 59 games for the Packers from 2018 to 2021, including 39 starts. During his time in Titletown, the 31-year-old wideout recorded a total of 2,153 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 123 receptions and 247 targets — mostly coming from Rodgers, who parted ways with the Packers in 2023.
