The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets still are working on a trade that would send Aaron Rodgers away from the only team he has played for in his 18 NFL seasons. Reportedly, the two teams are hung up on conditional compensation that will depend on whether or not Rodgers plays in 2024. This process has dragged on long enough that two other NFL teams, the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots, have begun calling the Packers about trading for the future Hall of Famer.
This has led NFL analysts and fans to make their own hypothetical trade proposals that would finally get the deal done between the Packers and Jets. Peter Schrager of Fox Sports had a particularly interesting one.
A Proposed Trade for Aaron Rodgers Between the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets

Many Packers fans want general manager Brian Gutekunst to hold out for the Jets’ first round draft pick (13th overall). Gutekunst, however, has stated that he is not after their first round pick. It seems as if the highlight of the deal, at least for Green Bay, will be one or more second round picks. Keeping this in mind, Peter Schrager tweeted out this hypothetical trade between the two teams:
Packers fans… would this be enough for Rodgers? @gmfb pic.twitter.com/GUN9rXCsrj

Now, this is a far cry from what many Packers fans want. Many fans on social media are calling for the Jets’ two second round picks and a player if they cannot get the first round pick. However, this could turn into a good return for the Packers.
Even getting one second round pick in 2023 would give them an extra pick within the draft’s top 100. An extra fourth round pick would give Gutekunst the ability to move around in the draft as well.
The 2025 pick is interesting in that it is entirely based on Rodgers’ playing at least eight games in 2023 and deciding to return again in 2024. That being said, an extra second round pick is not a bad thing; and if Rodgers does not play eight games in either season, that second round pick will be a high pick.
At the end of the day, though, I do not believe this is what the trade will be. It will be something similar, but if it was really as easy as someone posting a random trade scenario on social media, the deal would have been done already.
