Aaron Rodgers is closing in on the date in which he will depart for four days in total darkness. Per his interview on The Pat McAfee Show, the purpose of the retreat is to help him figure out what he wants to do in 2023. Either he will return to the Green Bay Packers as their starting quarterback, he will be traded, or he will retire. There has been a slew of comments regarding Rodgers’ darkness retreat, many of it critical of him and his lifestyle. Earlier last week, Rodgers’ former teammate John Kuhn weighed in on the topic.
John Kuhn Gives His Opinion on the Aaron Rodgers Darkness Retreat

As many readers know, former Green Bay Packers fullback John Kuhn hosts “Nine 2 Noon” every Monday through Friday on 97.3 The Game. Along with former Wisconsin Badgers basketball star Brian Butch, Kuhn tackles the most noteworthy sports stories in Wisconsin every week. Needless to say, he had a thing or two to say about Rodgers’ darkness retreat and the people who were criticizing him:
“It begs the question because there was a little bit of a Twitter spar yesterday between Aaron Rodgers and Mitchell Schwartz. And first, Mitchell Schwartz came out and, okay now, Mitch is great. He’s a national NFL analyst. Calls some college games. Big Kansas City Chiefs stan. Big Oregon Ducks stan.
“He said, ‘Weird that the Packers are consulting more with the guy who needs to go on a four-day darkness retreat to figure out if he wants to play football.’ And Aaron Rodgers says, and I love this about Aaron, he says, ‘Be curious, not judgmental. We are all on our own path and doing our own things like this. Helps me find a better sense of peace and love for life.’
“So Aaron says be curious, and I am curious about what this darkness thing is, and we’ll get into that here in a second, but I’m also curious about the Packers. I don’t think Mitchell Schwartz is wrong here. I mean, is there a line that you can eventually cross with one of these weird epiphanies?”
What follows is a very enlightening discussion between Kuhn, Butch, and Armen Saryan on if Rodgers is held to a higher standard than other players in terms of his offseason activities. The full show, including their reactions to LeBron James becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer can be found in the link at the beginning of this article. Their discussion about Aaron Rodgers and his darkness retreat starts at around the 1:10:00 mark in the show.

Everyone has different ways that they focus on important decisions. How Rodgers does it doesn’t concern me that his choice and other people should respect that. I personally like to retreat into the wilderness and commune with nature. It gives me peace and clears my mind. I hope Rodgers returns for at least one more year. I am tired of the Rodgers haters bashing him for everything.
