A late night breaking report revealed that Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets have met. This came on the heels of the New Orleans Saints signing Derek Carr to a four-year $150 million contract. For a while, it appeared as if Carr was destined to go the Jets, who were reportedly impressed with him. However, as much as the Jets’ front office wanted to sign Carr, there was one person standing in the way: their owner, Woody Johnson.
New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson Is Zeroed In on Aaron Rodgers

Matthew Berry of NBC Sports published an article in which he detailed the most interesting things he heard at the NFL Combine. This is what he had to say regarding the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers:
“As long as we are talking big-name quarterbacks, despite all the rumors of Derek Carr going to the Jets, one thing that held that up was that Jets owner Woody Johnson really wants Aaron Rodgers. So, the staff has had to be supportive of that. However, secretly, the rest of the team’s front office wanted Derek Carr. Now that Carr is reportedly signing with New Orleans, the Jets are in “Hoping for Rodgers” mode.”
This is quite the fascinating report. Of course, no one doubts that Aaron Rodgers is a better quarterback than Derek Carr. So why would the front office want Carr instead? Presumably, it is because Carr is a long-term solution while Rodgers may play one more season, two at the most.
Johnson’s insistence on pursuing Rodgers means one thing: he is in win-now mode.
