A look at the stat line of Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love against the San Francisco 49ers does not tell a great story. The former first round pick finished 13/24 with 176 passing yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. Fans that have bemoaned Love’s presence on the for the last two years were ecstatic. They felt justified for their distaste for the third-year pro, who by the way did not force the Packers to draft him. One strong defender of Love’s performance, though, is his mentor and future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. The four-time MVP discussed Love’s game with the media today.

“The Film Tells a Different Story” than the Stat Sheet for Jordan Love
When talking to reporters today, Rodgers was asked about Love and his three interceptions. Rodgers’ response was strongly in support of his backup quarterback.
Aaron Rodgers said he "felt bad" for Jordan Love with so much he couldn't control going wrong around him Friday night in SF: "It might look bad on the stat sheet with three picks, but the film tells a very different story."

Of the three interceptions, Rodgers could not (and would not) put the full blame for any of them on Jordan Love. In fact, the only one he said was a “bad decision” was the final interception on an attempt to Amari Rodgers. Even in that case, though, Rodgers said Amari ran “a terrible route.”

Indeed, the young group of wide receivers that the Packers have made plenty of mistakes in their first preseason game. Additionally, some mistakes carried over to practice this week. This led Rodgers to sound off on the young group to the media after Green Bay’s first joint practice with the New Orleans Saints. Additionally, reports state that Rodgers and other key members of the offense sat down with the young wide receivers and let them have it. For their part, at least according to Samori Toure, it helped them get focused, and they responded well today.
A day after Aaron Rodgers expressed his frustration with the young receivers, he met with the whole group this morning. Rookie Samori Toure said it was highly productive and “we responded well, we were challenged and rose to the occasion (in practice).

As for Jordan Love, his future with Green Bay remains uncertain. However, it sounds like Aaron Rodgers has much more confidence in him than some fans do.
