Aaron Rodgers has been busy this week doing something unfamiliar to the wide receiver corps currently with the Green Bay Packers–working out with his team in early May. Video of Rodgers has circulated showing Rodgers working out with New York Jets teammates Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson. Rodgers recently gave a lot of praise to Wilson.
Aaron Rodgers compares Jets WR to Davante Adams
Rodgers was a guest on Tuesday’s Pat McAfee Show. Rodgers talked about what he’s seen from Wilson since he’s been to the Jets facility. He gave the second-year wide receiver a lot of praise when he compared Wilson to former Packers wide receiver Davante Adams.
“[Wilson’s] a talented guy. I threw him a pass today and just kind of turned and was like ‘wow.’ His ability to kind of get in and out of his breaks,” Rodgers said. “There’s another 17 I played with for a long time who does it better than anybody. But the explosiveness in and out of breaks, to 17 here, is pretty similar.”
Rodgers seems to be gelling with the talented players the Jets’ offense has on their roster. One wonders if the Packers could have made the playoffs last season if Rodgers had put in the time with Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson last May. Watson showed a lot of explosive traits in the second half of his rookie season. Their connection could have been stronger if Rodgers had been there all through OTAs.
Rodgers’ comments are interesting after the backhanded compliments he gave the Packers rookies last season. He seemed frustrated with Adams being traded and not having ample veteran talent on the offense. Rodgers said he came back last season because he thought Adams would be in Green Bay. Rodgers chose the Jets this offseason because he thought they could win a championship. He must have faith in Wilson and other pieces of his new offense. Whether his guess is correct remains to be seen.
