Former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers knows a thing or two about beating the Chicago Bears.
The fading Jets signal caller and future Hall of Fame quarterback boasts a career 24-5 record over the Bears, to the point that at one time Rodgers was listed as the owner of the Bears’ franchise on Chicago’s Wikipedia page.
Still, as Chicago faces yet another offseason searching for a new head coach, this one tasked with shepherding wunderkind franchise quarterback Caleb Williams’ development, Rodgers took direct aim at the Bears’ coaching woes and instability over the years.
“The point is, over the years when they would hire new coaches in Chicago, at the introductory press conference they always said, ‘We wanna win a Super Bowl and we wanna beat Green Bay,’” Rodgers said. “Now, we didn’t have as many coaching changes over that time … but I don’t think that Mike McCarthy or Matt LaFleur came in and made that a point to say that, ‘Hey, you know, we gotta beat Chicago.’ It was kind of an understanding for a while there over the years that there was a good chance we were gonna sweep them every year.”
Since hiring Dave Wannstedt in 1993, the Bears have had eight different head coaches, meanwhile, the Packers have had just five over that span and just three head coaches dating back to Mike Sherman’s hiring in 2000.
Continuity among front office and coaching staff is certainly critical for success in the NFL, and it is a key aspect that the Bears have lacked for decades that the Packers have found a way to preserve through much of the franchise’s modern history.
