Aaron Jones had the best running back season since Eddie Lacy’s 2014 campaign for the Packers in 2019. The star running back put up great numbers on both the ground and through the air.
- 1,084 Rushing Yards
- 4.6 YPC
- 16 Rushing Touchdowns
- 49 Receptions
- 497 Receiving Yards
- 3 Receiving Touchdowns
On a conference call with packers reporters earlier this week Aaron Jones expressed his desire to remain in Green Bay his whole career and said, “I would love to be a life long Packer.” He acknowledged how he trusts both his agency and the Packers in this regard.
Contract Year
Aaron Jones is entering the last year of his rookie deal, but has only been the feature back for one year. Under Mike McCarthy Jones had limited snaps and carries. However, in the first year under Matt LaFluer Aaron Jones quickly took over the offense. Jones understands he still has a lot to prove to earn his next contract from the Packers.
Jones’ Agent, Chris Cabbot, says “There have been conversations and there will continue to be” in regards to Jones’ contract with the Packers. This bodes very well for Jones future in Green Bay.
Uncertainty
Perhaps the biggest speed bump in Aaron Jones future with the Packers came when the Packers drafted AJ Dillion of Boston College. The Packers drafted the bruising back in the second round after selecting quarterback Jordan Love in the first round. Perhaps Dillion is a future replacement for Jamal Williams, and the Packers are going to extend Jones before he can hit the market, but as of right now that is all an unknown.
There is a great deal of confidence within the organization for Aaron Jones. Perhaps his biggest supporter on the team is his quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Jones once told the story of when he came into the huddle against Chicago in his rookie year and Rodgers told him he’s his biggest fan in the organization. Keeping Aaron Jones would go a long way in keeping the franchise quarterback happy in Green Bay.
Overall
Jones future with the team as of right now is in the air, but if he has another season like 2019 it will be hard for the Packers to let him go. Jones has had a chip on his shoulder and will look to have a great year to see that he can be a “Life long Packer.”
As Always
What do you think about bringing back Aaron Jones on a long term deal? Was AJ Dillon drafted to replace Jones?
