Aaron Jones has been dealing with a hamstring injury for the Packers and he was not spotted at practice on Wednesday. He suffered a hamstring injury during their 38-20 win on the road against the Chicago Bears (0-1) this past Sunday.
During that contest, he rushed for 41 yards on nine carries (4.6 yards per carry) and a touchdown. Aaron Jones also caught two passes for 86 yards receiving and a touchdown in that game as well and went for 32 yards on a touchdown that was a fourth down play. With Jones not showing up to practice on Wednesday it will be something to monitor as we get closer to Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons (1-0) on the road.
Jones was a huge part of the offense this past weekend and we will see if he can return to the practice field on Thursday. If he doesn’t return to the practice field tomorrow, it probably means Aaron Jones may not be able to suit up for Green Bay on Sunday and that would mean more opportunities for other players.
If Aaron Jones is Out for the Packers Expect More Carries From AJ Dillon and Emanuel Wilson
If Jones is sidelined against the Falcons, expect AJ Dillon to be the starting running back. Last week against Chicago, he had 13 carries for 19 yards (1.5 carries) and also caught two passes for 17 yards receiving (8.5 yards per reception).
Head coach Matt LaFleur likes to use a running back by committee system. A player to watch for the Packers this weekend with Jones may be out is rookie Emanuel Wilson. He had an amazing preseason for Green Bay and was an undrafted rookie out of Fort Valley State. Wilson could be one of those players that finally gets his opportunity to prove himself.
Dillon is in the final year of his contract and this would be a golden case to show himself not only to the Packers but to the rest of the league as well. Jones not playing on Sunday would be a huge loss for this football team.
