Aaron Jones Give Jarring Response When Asked About 4th & 2 Play Call

The Green Bay Packers traveled to London for the very first time today.  Unfortunately, for them, it ended in a brutal 27-22 loss to the New York Giants.  A lot has been made of the play calling, specifically late in the game.  There were two instances where the offense had a short distance to go and they chose to pass both times.  Aaron Jones was asked about the play call after the game ended.  His response was passionate.

Aaron Jones Responds to 4th & 2 Question:

The question was specifically: “3rd and 2 on that run pass option… and then 4th and 2 they were stacking the box… do you think you guys could have ran it?  The talent that you and Dillon have, and the size.  Do you think you and Dillon get those two yards?”  Jones’ response was a passionate one:

I’d put my money on giving me or AJ Dillon two downs to get two yards, I’d put my money on it.  But at the same time I’m not the quarterback so I don’t know what he is seeing.  They also made a good defensive play to bat it down.  We just need to go back to the drawing board, put our heads down and keep working.

While Aaron Jones certainly acknowledges the role his coaching staff has on the team, he is confident he could have picked up those two yards.  The Green Bay Packers have had two running backs be successful all year.  Giving those two a shot when the game hangs in the balance only seems fitting.  Going forward we will see if Matt LaFleur makes that call in similar situations.
