A Pre Draft Look At The Packers Current Wide Receiver Group

With Davante Adams leaving Green Bay, it’s time for a Pre Draft look at the Packers current Wide Receiver group. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, Davante Adams signed with the Raiders and shocked not only Green Bay, but all of the NFL. Davante had nice words for Green Bay and the fans, but at the end of the day, he wanted to play with his college QB Derek Carr. With Davante gone, Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target is no more. The current Wide Receiver group is likely the most unproven in Rodgers time in Green Bay. Let’s have a look at who Rodgers has on his WR group.

    Randall Cobb

A very dear friend of Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb had a pretty decent impact after returning to Green Bay last year. Cobb spent two seasons away with Dallas, and Houston, spending a season in each city. Randall was hurt the last chunk of the season, but when he was on the field he made the best of his time. Rodgers and Cobb have a great relationship on and off the field. Knowing how important their friendship is Cobb took a massive paycut to stay in Green Bay moving forward. Although as Cobb is more of a Slot Receiver, Wide Receiver one, may be someone else’s job to step up for.

    Receptions 591

    Yards 7,168

    Touchdowns 52

    Allen Lazard

Allen Lazard is my early favorite for Wide Receiver One. Lazard has stepped up multiple times when other players were injured. He’s filled in beautifully not only catching the ball, but he may be the best blocking WR in football. It takes time for Rodgers to fully trust a Wide Receiver. But watching Rodgers the past couple years, you can see that he knows Lazard will make a play when his name is called. A restricted free agent, the Packers placed a second round tender on Lazard worth just under four million dollars. This should certainly keep Lazard in Green Bay.

Watch this and tell me Allen Lazard is just a blocker. He and Aaron Rodgers already have a strong chemistry with one another and it’s easy to see him stepping into the WR1 role.

    Amari Rodgers

Amari Rodgers was drafted by the Packers last year in the 3rd round out of Clemson. To say that Rodgers had an up and down year would be somewhat of an understatement. Rodgers is more of a slot receiver similar to Cobb. Hopefully Amari can learn a thing or two from a veteran like Randall Cobb in his second year in Green Bay. If the two Rodgers can get on the same page, there is huge upside for the second year Wide Receiver.

    Receptions 4

    Yards 45

    Touchdowns 0

    Malik Taylor

Malik Taylor hasn’t seen much time in the regular season. Likely because he has yet to develop a relationship with Rodgers. While Taylor has shined in the Preseason, the door may be open for Taylor to show what he can do in Green Bay. With Rodgers at QB the Wide Receiver may have his best opportunity in front of him.

    Marquez Valdes-Scantling

As the time of writing this article MVS still is a free agent. The door is open for a return to Green Bay, as a starting position is certainly available for him. A favorite target of Rodgers the Wide Receiver has had great moments, and some down as well. The potential for MVS to be elite is there. Can MVS put it all together and be the guy that Rodgers knows he can be? Time will tell, and it is to be seen if the Packers can resign him. Other teams have shown interest in MVS but his relationship with Rodgers will hopefully keep him in Green Bay for the next few years.

#Packers continue to talk with WR Marquez Valdez-Scantling in hopes of re-signing him, and a deal could come this weekend. MVS had other offers before GB jumped in, so he has options. There’s a starting position waiting for him in GB though.

    Juwann Winfree

While relatively unknown, Juwann Winfree has spent his time between the Packers practice squad and the active roster. Most of his activations from the practice squad were due to injuries amongst the Wide Receiver group. During the 2021 season Winfree caught his first pass from Rodgers against the Arizona Cardinals in week 8. He would finish the game with four catches for 30 yards. Much like Malik Taylor the potential to prove his worth is right at his doorstep.

    Juwann Winfree Career Stats

    Receptions 8

    Yards 58

    Touchdowns 0

Ian is an avid Green Bay Packers fan. A native Floridian Ian began his love of the Packers after his dad put a post it note on the headboard of his bed. It was the day after the Packers defeated the Patriots in the Superbowl. "35-21 Green Bay Packers" read the post it note. The rest is history.
