We are two games into the 2023 baseball season and the Milwaukee Brewers have set an unfortunate franchise record to begin the year. During the teams first 16 innings they did not score a run. That surpassed the 1970 Brewers team for the longest scoring drought to begin a season.

Sixteen scoreless innings to start the season is a franchise record the Brewers would’ve rather not set. The previous mark was 15 scoreless innings to begin 1970, the franchise’s first season in Milwaukee.

After being shutout on opening day it took until the eighth inning for the Milwaukee Brewers to score a run. In what ended up being a three run inning, newcomers Jesse Winker and William Contreras collected all three RBI’s.
Winker came into the game as a pinch hitter and delivered a clutch hit off of Cubs reliever Javier Assad. Contreras had two hard hit balls earlier in the game that went for outs, but a 72 MPH blooper that landed in the outfield grass ended up scoring two runs. Those two runs ended up being the difference in the game.
After scoring and taking a 3-1 lead, Matt Bush and Devin Williams finished the game and secured the Brew Crew’s first win of the 2023 season. The series finale will be played Sunday afternoon and will feature Eric Lauer and Jameson Taillon on the mound.
