Josef Newgarden won the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500, but it wasn’t a walk in the park.
Following a crash involving Kyle Kirkwood and Felix Rosenqvist with 14 laps to go and a green flag with 9 laps to go, another wreck involving Pato O’Ward, Agustín Canapino, and Simon Pagenaud stopped the race with a red flag with 6 laps remaining.

Pato O’Ward had been running fast the entire race and was looking like he was ready to best his 2nd place finish last year. O’Ward had just been passed by Josef Newgarden for the lead and was underneath Marcus Ericsson when he spun out.
As the race went to a green flag with 5 laps remaining, Marcus Ericsson’s incredible restart pushed him into the lead. But again, this restart led to another crash involving Benjamin Pedersen and Ed Carpenter.
Race fans were in for a storybook finish as we went to another red flag with only 3 laps remaining. The green and white flag waved simultaneously and Josef Newgarden made a beautiful pass in turn 2 to take the lead and held off Ericsson to win the greatest spectacle in racing.
