The Green Bay Packers (3-6) just suffered one of their worst losses in recent memory. The Packers matched up against the worst defense in the NFL today and managed NINE points. The Lions’ defense ranked dead last in points allowed per game (32.1) and yards allowed per game (421.3). That was before they played the Packers. Following the loss, many fans can’t help but look toward the 2023 NFL draft. Currently, the Packers hold the 8th pick. They are widely predicted to add a major offensive weapon with that pick.
Packers Widely Predicted To Add Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer
Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer (6′ 4″, 265 lbs) is one of the top prospects, regardless of position, as the college football season is in full swing. Mayer established himself as one of the top tight ends in the nation last season by leading the team with 71 catches and finishing tied for the team lead with seven touchdowns. In 2022 (so far) he already has 51 receptions, 624 yards, and 7 touchdowns through nine games.
Mayer has a great size for the tight end position. He showcases strong hands and an ability to get upfield quickly after the catch. The Kentucky native is not going to test off the charts physically, but there is zero wasted motion in his game. Mayer is a bear to bring down in open space, and he does a sufficient job of blocking both in space and in line. There is comfort for teams in knowing what they are getting by selecting Mayer — nicknamed “Baby Gronk” dating back to his freshman campaign.” — CBS Sports NFL Draft analyst Josh Edwards
