The #11 Marquette Golden Eagles have gotten off to a slow start in Big East Conference play and will look to avoid going under .500 in league play when they host the Butler Bulldogs on Wednesday night. The tipoff for that contest will be at 8 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network.
The Golden Eagles are 2-2 in Big East play and currently in sixth in the conference. Marquette has an 11-3 overall record this season. As for the Bulldogs, they are 1-3 in conference play and have a 10-5 overall record this season. Butler is looking to pull off the monster upset in this one on the road and they are ninth in the conference.
On Saturday, the Marquette Golden Eagles lost to the Seton Hall Pirates 78-75. Marquette had three players score in double figures for head coach Shaka Smart. Oso Ighodaro scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and recorded three assists.
David Joplin also added 15 points and Kam Jones also scored 13 points. Tyler Kolek will need to have a bounce-back performance for Marquette if they want to get back into the win column. The Golden Eagles have yet to lose at home this season as they are a perfect 8-0 at home. Butler has yet to win a road game this season and they are 0-3 in such instances.
The Butler Bulldogs Players to Watch For in the Matchup Against the Marquette Golden Eagles
Butler last played against the UCONN Huskies on Friday night at home and lost that game 88-81. The Butler Bulldogs had three players in that game score in double figures. DJ Davis led the way for Butler with 22 points, and two rebounds, and also recorded four assists.
Pierre Brooks scored 19 points and Jahmyl Telfort also scored 16 points for the Bulldogs. Thad Matta, the former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach is the current head coach of Butler. The Butler Bulldogs don’t have the talent that the Marquette Golden Eagles have in order to pull off the upset on the road.
This is a game that Marquette needs to not let Butler hang around. The Golden Eagles should win this game by double digits at home.
